Why We Give

We believe in the biblical principles of tithes and offerings. In Malachi, the Bible talks about bringing the first 10% (tithe) of our income into the storehouse (church). When we give, God promises, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in!” Tithes and Offerings received at White Chapel fund the vision and activities of our church.

Proverbs 21:26 says ‘the godly love to give’ (TLB), this is seen in many ways, through the countless volunteer hours offered to run community programs, in those serving in church services and through those who financially support the church and its initiatives.

What the Bible Says

And he blessed him and said, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; and blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand!” And Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

– Genesis 14:19-20

Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God, and this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God’s house. And of all that you give me I will give a full tenth to you.”

– Genesis 28:20-22

To the Levites I have given every tithe in Israel for an inheritance, in return for their service that they do, their service in the tent of meeting.

– Numbers 18:21

At the end of every three years you shall bring out all the tithe of your produce in the same year and lay it up within your towns. And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.

– Deuteronomy 14:28-29

Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely, who conduct their affairs with justice.

– Psalm 112:5

Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

– Proverbs 3:9-10

A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.

– Proverbs 11:25

Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need. I will rebuke the devourer for you, so that it will not destroy the fruits of your soil, and your vine in the field shall not fail to bear, says the Lord of hosts. Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.

– Malachi 3:10-12

And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny. And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”

– Mark 12:41-44

You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

– 2 Corinthians 9:11
