The Problem
The stained glass windows at White Chapel have become a staple of our sanctuary. All ten windows are a testament to Bible stories and create a richness for our worship experience each Sunday morning.
In September of 2022 Hurricane Ian caused widespread damage on the state of Florida. It was then, through professional assessment, that we learned our gorgeous windows were unable to continue bearing the elements of inclement weather.
The windows were installed in 1969 and at the time of installation they had a life expectancy of 45 years. These beautiful windows have outlived their lifecycle and need restoration.
The Dalle de Verre (French for “glass slab”) style of the stained glass is created by using thick blocks of colored glass that is either broken with a hammer or cut with a saw. This is an uncommon technique and there are only two organizations in the United States that specialize in the restoration of these kinds of windows.
The Goal
Our goal is to raise $135,000 to fund the meticulous restoration of the Dalle de Verre glass windows at White Chapel Church. This comprehensive restoration effort will encompass cleaning, repairing damaged glass pieces, reinforcing structural integrity, and ensuring proper installation to safeguard these treasures for the future. After restoration the new life expectancy for the windows is estimated at 75 years of structural integrity.
